And I’m not there to photograph anything! I’m in St. Louis, while the Muscle on the place (husband and son) are home building a fence in the rain.
So I had email that the creek was running a little, with the first inch of rain after I left, and yesterday they had a downpour of 1.2 inches in 20 minutes. Today it rained more, and the water level in the hand-dug well near the barn is within 5 feet of the surface.
And I’m not there. But in a few more weeks I will be and you can bet I’ll be out there seeing what comes up.

Another 1.8 inches today. The water ran a foot deep through the near meadow. The water level in the hand-dug well is within three feet of the surface. Michael hits water when digging post holes. Salado and Brushy Creeks are up and flowing but North and South San Gabriel were still low and quiet yesterday. I think this last front which had very widespread rain may raise them. I will see them Sunday. The Lindheimer muhleys are showing beautiful plumes. The seven naturalized ones are every bit as pretty as the original ones we planted decades ago. We also finally have additional little bluestem in the orchard.

Wow…that sounds wonderful. With that much water the creek will still flow by the time I get home, even with no more rain. Up here I saw what I think is reed canary grass in the marshes.
I had no idea there was so much wetland right near the Hudson…where creeks come in and have deposited sediments there are beautiful wetland areas which yesterday showed dark smooth water between the various kinds of vegetation, while the Hudson itself was streaked and wrinkled by the wind.
