Always fun to find a new (to us) species for the list, even when it’s a small assassin bug:
It flew up in front of us and then landed on the flower stalk of this plantain…and a look in my field guide and a trip to BugGuide.net confirmed that it’s a Yellow-bellied Bee Assassin, Apiomerus flaviventris. You can just get a hint of the yellow & dark striped belly in the above image. Strikingly handsome little critter.
